Indoor Golf Training Tips

Once the snow hits the ground, many golfers stick their clubs in the closet and forget about them until spring. But here's the truth: the golfers who come back strong in April are the ones who kept practicing in January. You don't need a course or even a big space to work on your game. These indoor golf training tips will help you stay sharp all winter long.

And don't forget — we have a Golf Simulator right here at Redlands Mesa! Reserve your spot for up to 4 golfers by calling (970) 255-7400 . It's the closest thing to real golf on a cold Colorado day.

1. Work on Your Putting Every Day

Putting is the one part of golf you can practice almost anywhere. All you need is a putter, a few balls, and a small target. Use a putting mat, a cup on the floor, or just a strip of tape to aim at. Focus on starting the ball on your intended line. Even ten minutes a day of deliberate practice putting green-style work at home will show up on the course when spring arrives.

2. Swing a Weighted Club or Resistance Band

You don't need to hit balls to build golf-specific strength and flexibility. A weighted club or a resistance band through the swing motion works the same muscles you use on the course. Focus on a smooth, balanced finish position. This is especially useful for keeping your shoulder turn loose and your hip rotation active through the cold months.

3. Watch Your Swing on Video

Set up your phone on a tripod and film your swing from the face-on and down-the-line angles. Compare what you see to an ideal swing position at the top, at impact, and at finish. You will almost always spot something worth working on. Make a note of it so you have a specific focus when you get back outside.

4. Use a Grip Trainer

Grip is foundational. A grip trainer you can squeeze while watching TV reinforces the muscle memory of a proper hold. It also builds forearm and hand strength, which pays off in both distance and control when you are back swinging for real.

5. Visualize Your Rounds

Spend ten minutes before bed walking through your favorite course hole by hole in your head. Visualize the shot shape you want off each tee, the club you would choose for each approach, and the read on each putt. Mental rehearsal is a real training tool used by players at every level. When you finally get back on the course, those holes will feel more familiar than you expect.
